Making Gains in Maths
A free, simple weekly plan that shows your child what to revise, how to revise it, and how to check it’s actually stuck. For Years 7–11.

“I want to revise… but I don’t know WHAT I should be looking at!”
Sound familiar? Most students spend lots of time learning maths in class, but almost none learning how to revise on their own. So they either don’t revise, or they spend hours on topics they already know.
This guide fixes that.
A 5-step training plan for maths, built like a marathon plan:
Create a plan – fit 2–4 short “workouts” into your child’s week (30–60 mins each), with a blank template to fill in
Check for gaps – a quick assessment (Y7–9) or past paper (Y10–11) to find exactly what needs work
Fill the gaps – how to use free videos and exam questions to learn each weak topic properly
Consolidate – re-attempt the questions they got wrong to prove the gap is closed
Repeat – how to keep the gains coming week after week
Every resource in the guide is free, with QR codes that take you straight to it.
Hi, I’m Jamie.
I struggled with maths at school. Then something clicked, and I went on to study it at A-level and university. I’ve since taught secondary maths in the classroom and now run McIlroy Maths Tutoring, helping students in Years 6–11 build their confidence.
This guide is the exact system I’d give any parent who asked me, “How can I help my child improve at home?”
